Platform takes action against protesting Indian ‘partners’ made to pay for jobs

An Indian platform has taken legal action against its gig workers for protesting against changes to the terms and conditions governing their work.

Urban Company is Asia’s largest home service provider and enables customers to order services – ranging from hair and beauty treatments to cleaning – that are delivered in the home by mainly female gig workers who the platform refers to as “partners”. The workers are protesting against a new structure which would require them to pay a monthly subscription to obtain guaranteed shifts and to work on weekdays.
